Cutting customers off from power as a solution to the demand problem
The German newspaper Welt am Sonntag obtained the regulation and spotted references to “smoothing peak demand” in the new draft energy act prepared by the ministry of economic affairs.
Although the draft document had been marked as final, it was taken down from the ministry's website after the newspaper intervened and described it in detail.
The draft provided that energy suppliers would be able to cut off those customers who generate high power demand when there is a shortage of power in the electricity grid.
The interruption would last up to two hours.
Such a measure could affect, for example, drivers using rapid charging stations, but also owners of homes with heat pumps or electric heating.
