Wind turbines and energy storage

Nearly PLN 47 million from the Wojewódzki Fundusz Ochrony Środowiska i Gospodarki Wodnej (the regional environmental protection fund) in Wrocław for four wind power plants with a total capacity of 10 MW is the first stage of new investments in Gaj Oławski near Wrocław.
There are also plans to build four more energy storage units.
The new investments will cost nearly PLN 100 million in total.
The expected effects of the wind power plants include a reduction in air emissions of nearly 28,000 tonnes of the greenhouse gas CO2 and 1,300 tonnes of particulates per year.
The company from Oława plans to store the clean energy it produces in four lithium-ion energy storage units with a total capacity of 12 MWh
Energy storage will help to solve a very important problem - wind turbines generate no electricity when there is no wind or the wind is very weak. Energy will then flow to the grid from the storage units.
When demand for power is low, the storage units come to the rescue again by collecting the surplus energy produced by the wind turbines.
